Tara Rez is a London singer, lyricist and composer working where punk, new wave and electronics meet. Love, resistance and personal freedom run through her writing, with a belief in our shared humanity at its centre.

Formed with Andy Thierum in 2001, The Duel was Tara’s band. She wrote, performed and managed it, creating with Andy the music and sounds they believed in. The band found its audience on MySpace, released records on her own DIY label FFR UK (Full Frontal Recordings UK, founded in 2001) and toured the UK, Europe and the USA. They played New York’s CBGB, Rebellion Festival every year from 2004 to 2017, and Rebellion’s festivals in Amsterdam, Vienna and Venice; Tara appeared at the online Rebellion in 2020, and The Duel were back live at Rebellion in 2024. Tara has shared stages with Angie Bowie, Ari Up of The Slits, Buzzcocks, Chelsea, UK Subs, Ruts DC and Spear of Destiny, and has always played benefit gigs for homelessness and mental health.

Her solo recordings include Fight On and Shadow of Dreams from the Black Snake Prophecy EP. Her latest single, Rule The World, came out as The Duel, written and produced with Segs Jennings. Now performing as Tara Rez (The Duel), she brings that body of work into a personal live setting: a songwriter, her voice, her guitar and an electronic pulse.

Tara co-runs Club FFRUK with Segs Jennings of The Ruts and Ruts DC. Since 2013 their nights have brought live acts, DJs and an independent music community together at Madame Jojo’s, the 12 Bar, the Intrepid Fox and now Rooz Studios in London. She also presents The Tara Rez Show on Radio Reverb, joined by Segs.
