DIY punk since 2001
The Duel
Tara Rez's punk band: rave and cyber meets '77 punk, born in the late nineties and still on its own label, FFR UK.
We stopped trying to fit into a genre. We wrote the songs we wanted to hear.
The story
It started in 1998 as Twisted Corporation, Tara Rez and Andy Thierum writing songs together. In 2000 came Orion's Gate, the club nights Tara put on in Brighton under Full Frontal Recordings, and out of them came OG1: named after Stargate SG1, which they were both obsessed with, with OG for Orion's Gate. OG1 made one EP. Then Duel, until they found a classical act already had the name, so in 2001 they became The Duel.
Their debut album Let's Finish What We Started came out on their own label, FFR UK. The live show grew into a full band and back again, and took them from London's punk venues to CBGB in New York and Rebellion Festival every year from 2004 to 2017. Today Tara Rez carries The Duel on her own: vocals and guitar over live electronics, punk stripped to its rawest form.
